The Tarleton TexAnns tipped off their preseason Wednesday as they hosted NAIA program Texas Wesleyan in highly competitive exhibition game.

Returning senior guard Bailey Wipff electrified the TexAnn offense out of the gates as she scored the game's first five points off of a three-point jumper and a lay up. Texas Wesleyan's offense somewhat stumbled in the opening minutes and into the second quarter.

Tarleton's largest lead of the first half came in the second quarter when University of Texas-Arlington transfer Mackenzie Hailey drilled a three-point shot to give the TexAnns a 27-16 advantage with a little more than six minutes remaining in the quarter.

The Lady Rams wouldn't wouldn't panic at the double-digit lead as they followed up the Hailey basket with a 7-0 run before cutting the TexAnn lead to three before halftime.

Texas Wesleyan kept the pressure on Tarleton early in the second half as they outscored the TexAnns in the third quarter, 18-17.

But no matter how close the Lady Rams came, they never could take the lead as they only managed to tie the game on three seperate occasions, as Tarleton held on late for a four-point win.

Tarleton guard Tiara Tatum led all scorers with 16-points. Forward Travanti Downes also had a solid night for Tarleton posting 11-points and five rebounds.

The TexAnns will close out the preseason on November 6 when they travel to Austin to play the University of Texas in an exhibition.
