Kenneth and Joye’ Smith, owners and operators of Smith Garage Doors in Stephenville, bring 20 years of experience to the Central and North Central Texas area, and they say no job is too small and that they pride themselves on customer service and doing the job right.

Kenneth says, “We run our business on Christian values; we want people to feel they were treated respectfully, honestly, that we’ve done the job right when we leave, and that they’re one hundred percent satisfied with our work.”

Joye’ adds, “If something’s not right, we’ll make it right no matter what it takes. If somebody’s stuck in their garage at eight at night, we’ll go out and help them. We’ve done it before.”

It’s probably not something most of us have thought about, but working on garage doors and openers can be dangerous work.

Kenneth - who worked for several garage door companies in Texas and other states prior to opening this business in Stephenville - says, “Spring tension is very high in these openers and I’ve seen some bad things happen to people. It’s not something most people should be doing if they’re not properly trained. Everyone here is.”

He credits virtually all the people he’s worked for over the years with contributing to that training, but points to Eugene Newman of Garage Door Place in Manhattan, KS as his mentor.

“He taught me an awful lot,” Kenneth says, adding, “Eugene is just a real fine man and I can’t say enough good about him.”

Joye’ manages the office and Kenneth and his tech Kevin Montgomery are hands-on guys who are out in the field virtually all the time.

“We’re backlogged on installations, but we usually can get to repairs the same day or the next day. And like Joye’ said, if somebody’s stuck or needs help right now, we’ll help them as soon as we can.”

“We use only the best quality doors, openers, parts and springs, and we always give the customer the full picture and the price and let them decide what way they want to go - repair or new. And when we give a quote, that’s the price. We’re straight up honest; no hidden fees or up-sell pressure on people to buy something they don’t need,” Kenneth says.

Also, as Joye’ points out, “We trade with local businesses as much as possible. We live here and we want to support everybody here in any way we can.”

In terms of customer service, Kenneth says, “I have a picture in my mind of the little gas station my grandpa ran and how he treated his customers. He treated everybody right. That’s what we aim for here and that’s why so much of our business comes from referrals.”

Smith Garage Doors does both residential and commercial work and Kenneth points to local commercial customers and jobs like Hayden Real Estate, real estate developer Beau Mayo, Tarleton’s roll-up door on the press box, garage doors at Wood’s Furniture and many more.

And here’s something cool: Want a photo of your grandkids or anything else on your garage door? Smith Garage Doors can get that done for you.

“We can have a photo image digitally imprinted on a garage door,” Kenneth says. ‘”I’ve seen American flags, a flock of birds, you name it. Whatever the customer wants, that’s what they’ll get. ”
