A big time volleyball matchup took place Tuesday night between Hico and Hamilton. Both teams entered the competition tied for first in district 8-2A, but the Lady Tigers were the team who held a firm grasp at the top of the standings after a four-set win.

In front of a packed crowd, the Lady Tigers, who entered the week ranked No. 24 in the state of Texas, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association, defeated No. 17 Hamilton in a tightly-contested match.

The Lady Bulldogs played well and kept every set close, but Hico completed important plays when they needed to and sealed the win thanks to set victories of 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-21.

Leading Hico offensively was Emilee Jackson who served up an impressive 32 passing assists in the win. Kaylee Moore finished with two kills and 15 passing assists, including 45 set assists. Kaylee Roach led the team in kills with 17 and also contributed 31 passing assists.

“It was a gym packed with fans and it was loud and intense from start to finish. It was a big time win,” said Hico head volleyball coach Julia Plaster.

The win moves first place Hico to 6-0 in district play.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on Gustine at 10 a.m.
