STEPHENVILLE - TexAnn Volleyball improved to 5-0 on the year with a thrilling five-set win over Lubbock Christian (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-13) in the opening match of the TexAnn Invitational in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.

The 5-0 start for Tarleton marks the second straight season the TexAnns have won their first five games. Tarleton is 15-3 in sets played this season.

A pair of juniors, Hailey Roberts and Jordyn Keamo, etched their names into the record books on Thursday night as Roberts tied her own school record with 37 kills and Keamo dished out 66 assists, which is tied for the second most in school history. It's Roberts' sixth career 30-kill game and the 10th in program history.

In the opening set, Tarleton jumped out to a 11-5 lead on a pair of kills from Hannah McManus, who finished with a career-high 13 kills and her second straight double-digit kill game. The Lady Chaps would go on 6-0 run to cut Tarleton's lead to 14-13, but the TexAnns would respond with a run of their own late in the set with a 4-0 mark to take a 21-16 lead. Roberts later delivered a kill that would send the TexAnns to a 25-19 win in the opening set.

LCU took command early in the second set, leading 10-4. Tarleton battled back to make it 17-14 on one of Autumn Taylor's eight kills, but LCU would go on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 24-14. Tarleton would force LCU into a late set timeout after getting to within 24-19 but LCU delivered on the next serve to even the match at one.

McManus and Roberts guided the TexAnns to an early 10-6 lead in the third set with three kills apiece. After LCU climbed back into the set to tie it at 15, the two teams would go back and forth with kills from Rebecca Dauenhaurer, Chandler Gow and Taylor that helped keep the TexAnns close. Tarleton went on a 5-0 run to lead 23-18 and Roberts pounded out the final two kills for the win in the third set.

The fourth set was a game of runs with LCU taking the first blow on a 5-0 run and a 9-6 early advantage. Trailing 20-14, Abbey Mackey's kill started a 7-0 run that featured five LCU errors. Tarleton took its first lead of the set at 23-22 since they led 6-4 and the two teams would exchange points until LCU scored the final three to win 29-27 and force a fifth game.

The TexAnns made sure they sent the crowd of over 700 people home happy in the home opener by taking a 10-5 lead in the fifth set as Roberts scored the first five points on kills. LCU would get to within one at 13-12, but Roberts finished what she started and closed the door on the game with back-to-back kills for a 15-13 victory.

Defensively, Adrianna Knutson was stellar, coming up with a game-high 27 digs, which is a career high for the sophomore. Knutson was one of five TexAnns with double-digit digs, with Roberts adding 14, Chandler Gow (12), Alissa Johnson (11), and Jordyn Keamo (10). The TexAnns also had three players with three or more blocks with Rebecca Dauenhauer and McManus rejecting a team-best four shots each and Roberts coming up with three.
