Local DAV Chapter 234 hosted two national assistance officers from the Waco office all day Wednesday. The officers, Calvin Stephens and Felicia Weston were on had to help vets file claims with the Veterans Administration.

The van is a fully-equipped mobile office and Harry Woodward, who has been Chapter Commander for five years said, "We started at about 9 a.m. this morning with five veterans and people have continued to trickle in all day.”

He said he had no idea how many vets would show up for the help.

Woodward’s wife, Veronica, who works in the local DAV chapter said, “Family members of veterans can get assistance from these folks, too. It’s not just for veterans.”

Harry explained that claims can be medical or financial, “We just want to help veterans get the benefits they earned while serving their country. This is the first time the van has come to Stephenville, but we hope it becomes a regular event.”

Army veteran John Stone who was being assisted by Stephens said, "This is a big help – it saves everybody a trip to Waco or elsewhere. I really appreciate it.”
