Joseph and Mandi Stokes opened their business, Body Shop Fitness Center at 408 W. Lingleville last fall. Mandi is on the committee for the Gold Buckle 5K race that’s the kickoff event for Cowboy Rodeo Heritage Week and they are offering free race training at 6 a.m. on Saturdays.

Also, Mandi said, “Sign up for the race, and receive a free week at the gym.” And that’s a real deal, because as Joseph explained this is a very well equipped gym. Some of the features of the gym include:

• personal training,

• nutrition coaching, group exercise classes, and

• 24-hour access with an electronic pass key

• separate playroom for the kids during class

• childcare is provided during those times

In fact, the door to the separate children's playroom opens to the workout area so parents are never far from their kids.

The Stokes are Stephenville natives and graduated from SHS in 2007, where both were all-around athletes. That athleticism, their hometown roots and degrees from Tarleton make them perfectly positioned for this kind of business in Stephenville.

“I’ve got a degree in fitness management and started running fitness boot camps about four years ago.,” Mandi said, adding, “Joseph’s got a degree in business management, so we make a great team.”

She also holds a masters degree in kinesiology and is certified for special populations.

“That puts me in a position to be a personal trainer to anyone with health problems, the elderly, and so forth,” she said.

Joseph said they also have hydraulic resistance training that's very good for seniors as it's easy on the joints.

“It’s not just for seniors though; it’s good for people at the entry level, too,” he said.

Mandi explained that in addition to all the other things they offer, they now have Yoga, dance fitness, Pound [workout with drum sticks] and Fit Camp. It should also be mentioned that Mandi and several of her staff are nutrition certified.
