STEPHENVILLE – Hailey Roberts has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after her performance at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational in San Angelo.
Roberts, the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year and AVCA All-American went back to work in a big way last weekend as the junior outside hitter blasted 66 kills (5.08 per set) in four quick matches – including three sweeps – to lead Tarleton to a 4-0 start to the season.
She opened her season with a record-setting performance as she landed 14 kills with no errors for a .636 hitting percentage in a sweep of St. Mary's. The 14 kills were the most in a single match by a TexAnn without making an error. She followed up with her first 20-kill performance of the season by landing 23 kills against Regis Friday. With double-digit kills in each of the first four matches, Roberts improves her current streak to 45 consecutive matches of 10 or more kills dating back Nov. 1, 2014.
In addition to the offensive work, Roberts recorded double-digit digs in three of the four outings for her first three double-doubles of the year, including a season-high 17 digs against St. Edward's Saturday. She also landed nine service aces and totaled 79.0 points en route to leading Tarleton to its best start to a season at 12-1 in sets played in 30 years and being named to the Kathleen Brasfield All-Tournament Team for the third consecutive season. It's Roberts' ninth career LSC Player of the Week award.
This is the ninth career Lone Star Conference Player of the Week award for Roberts, which continues to improve her school record for weekly conference honors. It is the first award given by the LSC this season.
Roberts and the TexAnns will host the Tarleton Invitational on Sept 8-10 and play its season opener on Thursday against Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m.
