Tarleton Cross Country will open the 2016 season on Friday at the Bob Gravett Invitational hosted by Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The Texans will run an 8,000-meter course at 6 p.m. and the TexAnns will follow with a 5K at 6:40 p.m.

BUILDING OFF OF LAST SEASON
The TexAnns won the 2015 Lone Star Conference championship - the first in program history. This season, the TexAnns return three members from last year's championship squad in Katelin Huckabee, Haley Dennard and Andelynn Carlton.
Coach Pat Ponder loaded up his squad with depth and plenty of youth on both the men's and women's team. The Texans are carrying 10 runners with six being freshman. Andrew Clark andPeyton Heinig are the two returning lettermen. The TexAnns also have 10 runners on the roster with six freshmen.
Last season, the Texans and TexAnns opened up at the Ken Garland Invitational that featured Division I and Division II opponents. Both Tarleton teams won their respective groups against Division II opponents. Of the returning runners, Huckabee came in second for Division II athletes and Dennard came in sixth. Heinig had the top finish for the returning men, coming in eighth against Division II runners.
The weather in Arkadelphia, Ark. is forecasted to be sunny and 80 degrees at race time for the Texans, according to weather.com.
