The Erath County Republican Executive Committee recently met and elected officers for the next year. The executive committee is made up of all precinct chairmen/chairwomen in Erath County.

Elected for the upcoming election season:

• Executive Committee Chairman: Gil Parks

• 1st Vice Chair: Shirley Bittenbinder

• 2nd Vice Chair: Kathy Shafer

• Secretary: Sara Miller/Gwinda Jones

• Treasurer: Kim Baker

Parks and his wife, Melissa, are Tarleton State University graduates and long-time area residents. He’s a certified financial planner with almost three decades in the business and she’s an elementary school teacher for the Stephenville ISD.

Following the executive committee election, he said jokingly in an interview with E-T about his new post, “I kind of feel like I’m drinking out of a fire hydrant learning the job, but this is very important to me, because I feel that we really need to elect some smart, true conservatives with God in their lives and I want to help make that happen.

“As for the Erath County Republican Executive Committee, we’ve got some outstanding precinct chairmen and chairwomen serving,” he continued. “They’re good, hardworking, decent people who fit that description I just gave you about the kind of people I believe we need to elect so the party’s in good hands in Erath County.”

The next meeting of the Erath County Republican Executive Committee will be held Monday, Aug. 8, at the Agave Restaurant. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public, however, only precinct chairmen may vote on issues before the committee.

“Campaign signs, bumper stickers, etc. for races, can be purchased at L Bar Western Art store at 200 West Washington Street. Bill Lowrance has graciously allowed us to use his store to distribute campaign information," Parks said.

Campaign signs should be available around Aug. 11-12.
