The beginning of the 2016-2017 sports season for Tarleton athletics is drawing closer and once again the annual Texan Club membership drive is in full swing.

For more than 30 years the Texan Club has provided financial support for the University’s athletic programs. Without the Texan Club, some of the student-athletes on Tarleton’s campus may not be where they are today.

“It’s one of our top priorities because the Texan Club supports our scholarship fund,” said Tarleton State University athletic director and head basketball coach Lonn Reisman. “Without the Texan Club we would not have some of the scholarships that we have today in certain sports. We feel as though this is a very pivotal time of the year when we’re out here raising money to help our scholarship fund.”

In addition to help boost the scholarship fund, the Texan Club also helps current student-athletes fund tutoring.

“We’re making sure our student-athletes are getting whatever help that they need to succeed if they need any in certain classes,” said Reisman. “There is a lot of things that the Texan Club does for our athletes.”

Over the years, the Texan Club has grown at an incredible rate. With the group’s growth, Tarleton athletics has seen itself propel into one of the most competitive Division II athletic programs in the country.

“We have one of the largest booster clubs in all of NCAA Division II. Our club is even bigger than some Division I schools,” Reisman said. “We have so many people who are a such a big part of the Tarleton family and we’ve built a tremendous bridge between Tarleton and the Stephenville area and also some who are outside of the area. We’re getting traction with areas outside of Stephenville now. We’re becoming more and more known in other areas of Texas and in the country.”

While many may think companies or businesses are the main target of the Texan Club, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The club has membership packages for corporations or individuals.

Individual memberships range from the ‘Championship Club’ which is for donations of $2,500 or more, to $100 memberships which are available for individuals who have graduated from Tarleton within the last five years.

“One of the reasons we have the Young Alumni Club is because we want to be sure to keep a connection between the students that are graduating and former athletes,” Reisman said. We want to keep that connection with them by offering this option. We’re excited about those who sign up and opt to be a part of the Tarleton athletics family.”

Corporate memberships range from $10,000 and up to $750.

Memberships also come with a high number of perks from season football tickets, to reserved parking at football games and online advertising on the Tarleton sports website.
