DALLAS (AP) — Crews have been searching for the body of an off-duty university police officer who is missing after being swept into a creek in Dallas.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/29oVKXf ) reports that the Southern Methodist University officer was working a security job at a construction site near Turtle Creek when a thunderstorm hit the area. The unidentified officer called a dispatcher to say his car was being overtaken by water, but lost contact with authorities around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Dallas Fire-Rescue officials say they've been treating the search as a recovery effort rather than a rescue mission. About 40 people and a K-9 team participated in the search.

The search was halted for around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Crews will continue the search at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
