A registered sex offender was arrested Thursday afternoon after being caught in his vehicle on the premise of Stephenville City Park.
Caesar Vazquez, 28, was recognized by Officer Robert Moore, arrested and taken to the Erath County Jail for the city ordinance violation.
“It was a good job, (Moore) recognized the individual as a sex offender and made the arrest,” Lt. Doug McClammy said. “The city park is a safe zone and it’s a city ordinance violation, so he was arrested for that violation.”
McClammy said the violation is considered a Class C misdemeanor, which in the state of Texas is typically a fine of no more than $500.
The Stephenville City Ordinance on sex offenders states: “It is the intent of this subchapter to serve the city’s compelling interest to promote, protect and improve the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the city by creating areas around locations where children regularly congregate in concentrated numbers wherein certain registered sex offenders and sexual predators are prohibited from loitering or prohibited from establishing temporary or permanent residency.”
Sex offenders cannot be within 300 feet of: Public parks; private and public schools; public libraries; amusement arcades or video arcades; indoor and outdoor amusement centers or amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, fairs or fair grounds; public, commercial and semi-private swimming pools; child care facilities or child care institutions; and several other locations in which children would be present.
