Meals on Wheels of Erath County held its fifth annual Shoot Down Senior Hunger event last weekend. The dinner and sporting clay fun shoot brought in 200 folks Tuesday evening to hear the musical stylings of Cody Canada, Mike McClure, Courtney Patton and Hunter Glaske.

On Saturday, 65 shooters enjoyed a challenging course at Rough Creek Lodge. The fundraiser brought in nearly $35,000 to help feed local homebound elderly residents.

Top shooter awards were handed out in three divisions. The Youth Division went to Colton Back on the Prime Metal team. The Women's Division went Shanna Barrett on the Schreiber team. And Marc Turner from Turner Arms won the Men's Division.

Meals on Wheels delivers more than 43,000 meals each year to home-bound seniors. Proceeds from the Shoot Down Senior Hunger event will help MOWEC continue home-delivered meal services and keep elderly clients off waiting lists.

MOWEC Executive Director Whitney Lee said the organization relies on annual fundraising efforts to keep the wheels moving on daily home-delivered meal services.

"We delivered 3,700 meals in the month of May alone," Lee said. "There's no way we could have helped that many people without the support of the community."
