The Stephenville Yellow Jacket 7-on-7 team followed up their state qualifying performance last weekend with another solid tournament showing Saturday as they finished the day 2-1 in pool play.

The Yellow Jackets were placed in a pool with hosts Boyd, Perrin-Whitt and already qualified Mineral Wells.

In the first game of the day, Stephenville faced their toughest test in the already qualified Mineral Wells Rams.

Stephenville got off on the right foot as quarterback Easton Jones found Krece Nowak to get the scoring started to give the Yellow Jackets an early 6-0 lead. Mineral Wells went on to tie things up, but cornerback Avery Sweet intercepted a pass on Mineral Wells' next drive and returned it for a touchdown to reclaim the lead for Stephenville.

At halftime, the two teams were tied at 13.

In the second half, Stephenville took advantage of already being qualified for the state tournament by using players in other positions. Taking over the quarterback spot was Tyler Schouten who eventually hooked up for two touchdown passes in the game.

At the end of regulation, both teams were tied at 25, forcing overtime. Junior Easton Jones retook the quarterback spot and found Blake Aragon for a touchdown to begin the extra period. However, Stephenville failed to score the extra point which was ultimately their downfall as Mineral Wells scored on their ensuing drive and converted the PAT for a 32-31 victory.

The rest of the day went just as Stephenville would have wanted as they defeated Boyd 54-39 and Perrin-Whitt 47-27.

The Yellow Jackets will continue their 7-on-7 season this week when they travel to Aledo on Wednesday for league play.
