A slew of Stephenville track and field athletes traveled to Lubbock to take part in the regional meet Friday and competed strongly.

The day began with multi-event athlete Josh Nowell taking part in the high jump. Nowell qualified for the event with a jump of 5'10 at the area meet and topped that mark Friday.

The first four attempts for Nowell went very smoothly. He sailed over 5'6, 5'8, 5'10 and 6'0 ft. all on one attempt. However, once the bar hit the 6'2 mark, it proved to be just a tad too high for the district champ.

Clearing 6'0 ft. was good enough for Nowell to make the podium as he finished in third place. The top two competitors automatically booked their ticket for the state meet, however, with the wild card still up for grabs, Nowell could find himself in Austin competing as well once all of the regional meets tally up their results.

Nowell also took part in the triple jump where he placed seventh.

Also competing in field events were Hailey Martin and Nadine Arredondo.

Martin took part in the long jump, while Arredondo threw the discus.

Arredondo had a particularly good showing as she placed fourth in the event with a throw of 106 ft.

Moving on to the track events, the prelims are what took place Friday.

The only Stephenville final qualifiers were Hailey Martin in the 100M hurdles and the Honeybee 4x200M relay team.

The regional meet will continue Saturday morning with field events.
