The Honeybees overcame a four-run deficit and clinched head coach Rus Mayes’ 200th career victory Friday night in a 8-5 win against Mineral Wells.
The Lady Rams took advantage of a lackluster Stephenville defense in the first inning as they tacked on four runs after a Honeybee error brought the first one across the plate.
From there on out, the Stephenville defense played like they have for much of the year and only allowed one run over the remaining six innings.
Stephenville got their scoring started in the first as well as Julia Flores doubled doubled in Madison Gilder and Sami Shaffer hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Lady Rams’ lead to only two after the first inning.
Gilder later doubled in Kali Smith in bottom of the second and an error tied the game at four in the third inning.
Mineral Wells did retake the lead in the fourth on a slow dribbler up the middle, but Sami Shaffer jacked one over the fence in right-center field to tie things back up at five.
In the bottom of the sixth Stephenville finally made their final move as Nadine Arredondo ran out an infield hit and drove in Kali Smith for the go-ahead run. Shaffer also slammed a hit to the left field wall which drove in two more to clinch the victory.
