This is my mom’s oatmeal cookie recipe. One of my favorite childhood memories was coming home after a long day at school to the smell of these cookies baking. They were a staple at our house and she carried on this tradition with her grandchildren.
With school back in full swing this is a perfect easy after school snack.
Meme's Oatmeal Cookies
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup oatmeal
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl add sugars, shortening, egg, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until creamy. Add dry ingredients and beat on medium speed until thoroughly mixed. Stir in the oatmeal. Spoon cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Serve warm with milk.
