We have a great program the end of this week. Would you like to improve the aesthetics of your yard by getting rid of unwanted weeds? How about learning more about aquaponics and taking a tour of an aquaponics facility? {Aquaponics is basically the marriage of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system.}

The Erath AgriLife Extension Service will give you that opportunity from 2-5 p.m. on Friday. Dr. Hennen Cummings, associate professor of Turfgrass Management at Tarleton State University, will discuss pre-emergence on lawns and discuss aquaponics and add a bonus tour of the facility for questions. Lonnie Jenschke, County Extension Agent Erath County will discuss pesticide laws and regulations. Three CEU’s will be provided for pesticide applicators license.

Please register before the event by calling 965-1460 or send an email to erath-tx@tamu.edu. There will be a $10 registration fee to cover program cost. This will be a great opportunity that you will not want to miss. Timing is important when applying a pre-emergent herbicide.

Join us April 2016-March 2017 for a 1-hour monthly webinar agricultural business start-up school.

Every participant must be registered through Conference Services to get access to the supplemental materials and interactive webinars.

All ages are welcome, although this is most helpful to those landowners who have recently inherited or purchased land and need help getting started to make a profit. Three in-person schools were offered last year, but in order to try to accommodate different regions of Texas, we are replicating this school as much as possible online. Sponsorship has been provided by Capital Farm Credit and the Renewable Resources Extension Act.

Lonnie Jenschke is an Erath County extension agent. His column appears weekly and online at yourstephenvilletx.com.
