US Open returns to Brookline

The U.S. Open returns to The Country Club outside Boston for only the fourth time in history. The Country Club is one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. It also has a history of playoffs. It should be a dynamic week coming off the first Saudi-backed LIV Golf event outside London.

Iowa swimmers wondered if Title IX suit was ‘going to work’

IOWA - Several women’s athletes at the University of Iowa sued the school in late 2020 after the athletic department said it was was cutting men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis and men’s gymnastics. Sage Ohlensehlen was a senior and headed up the lawsuit, while Alexa Puccini was a freshman. The lawsuit was one of several that came during the pandemic, when schools needed to save money and cut women’s teams. Female athletes in turn fought back by threatening legal action or filing suit. The Iowa swimmers eventually settled with the school and the teams were reinstated.

Carr adds stars to Big Spring rodeo

BIG SPRING — Dane Driver and the rest of the volunteers who organize the Big Spring Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo are doing everything they can to draw more and more people to the annual event. It all started with building a fan base, and it’s culminating in the addition of more contestants to compete, starting with this year’s event, set for 8 p.m.

Texas A&M 1st to claim CWS spot

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Dylan Rock drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning and No. 5 overall seed Texas A&M beat 12th-seeded Louisville 4-3 on Saturday to win the College Station Super Regional and become the first team to earn a berth in the College World Series.
