CTFAC visit library

Cross Timbers Fine Artsw Countil recently visited the Stephenville Public Library, where guest, Mrs. Mahon, read the book “If You Give A Cat A Cupcake” by Laura Numeroff. They also helped the children decorate “pretend” cupcakes as well as eating real ones.

TSU faculty help distribute food to those in need

The Tarleton State University College of Liberal and Fine Arts was well represented July 9 at the Homelessness HELP, Erath County free lunch distribution hosted by Graham Street Church of Christ. Dean Eric Morrow and Criminal Justice faculty member Brittany Sutton helped to prepare and distribute lunches for the event which is held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Erath County is seeing an increase in the number of people who do not have permanent housing. COLFA will continue to collaborate with Homeless Help in addressing the critical needs of our community.

Manners Camp graduates

Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council congratulates its Manners Camp 2022 graduates. “We are so proud of these young ladies and gentlemen. They definitely put their manners into practice” at a recent graduation reception. The class was taught by Kelijon Nance and was held at the Stephenville Historical House Museum. ‘Helltown’ shines light on Cape Cod serial killer

Author Casey Sherman, who grew up on Cape Cod, returns to both his true crime roots and hometown with his latest written effort. “Helltown: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer on Cape Cod” focuses on the case of Antone “Tony” Costa, a counterculture figure who was convicted of murdering two Providence, Rhode Island, women in 1969, and is suspected in at least two other slayings in the Massachusetts tourist hotspot.

Dakota Johnson brings a modern spark to ‘Persuasion’

Dakota Johnson stars as Anne Elliot in the new Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion.” Anne is 27, unmarried and on the verge of spinsterhood having rejected her one true love eight years ago for his humble background at the advice of a friend. This version, directed by Carrie Cracknell, is set in the Regency-era and preserves some of Austen’s words but also infuses the script with modern buzzwords like “thriving” and “self-care.” Associated Press Film Writer Lindsey Bahr writes in her review that although the cast is pleasant, the modernization has a whiff of condescension to it and seems misguided. “Persuasion,” which begins streaming Friday, is rated PG.
