STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton put a dominant end to its run of four games in five days Saturday afternoon when the TexAnn Volleyball team improved to 12-3 on the season with a sweep of Eastern New Mexico.
The match opened with the TexAnns holding a slim lead over the first 34 points as Tarleton built a 19-15 lead. The Greyhounds responded with a 9-4 run to put the TexAnns behind the eight ball and force a timeout at 24-23 in the opening set.
Out of the break, Tarleton benefitted from back-to-back Greyhound miscues before Xzache Mathis put the game away with a kill shot to send the TexAnns to a 1-0 lead in the match.
Adrianna Knutson set the tone of the second set by opening things up with an ace. The opening point started a 12-3 Tarleton run that put the TexAnns in control of the set and forced the Greyhound to burn both of their timeouts in the first 15 points.
Eastern New Mexico scored on consecutive points only once during the second set, but the run was quickly snuffed out by a kill from Kenya Alexander to put Tarleton up 18-7. The teams traded points over the rest of the set as the TexAnns took seven of the final 12 points en route to a 25-12 win.
The Greyhounds took an early lead and carried it to a 15-13 lead before a block by Mathis turned the tide for the TexAnns.
Tarleton clawed back to even things up at 19-19 before a Greyhound error and a Chandler Gow service ace shifted the momentum to Tarleton's side and forced an Eastern New Mexico timeout. Tarleton answered with four of the final six points, including a kill from Mathis for the game-winner, to claim the match.
Hailey Roberts kept her streak of double-digit kill performances alive with a team-leading 13 kills while Mathis landed 11 kills with a .316 hitting percentage. Kelsey Raglin added eight kills while Chandler Gow (38) led the team in assists and Ayssa Garcia (14) led the way in digs.
Tarleton will return to action Friday in Austin against St. Edward's at 7 p.m.
