WACO, Texas (AP) — Police say a man has been charged with resisting arrest after a vehicle crashed through a Waco Regional Airport gate in an alleged attempt to steal a plane.
Waco police say 31-year-old Robert Edward Morrell II was arrested Friday after being released from a mental health facility.
Investigators say a man on Sept. 17 smashed through an airport gate and onto the tarmac, approached a parked private jet and tried to enter the plane.
An off-duty police officer working security approached the suspect. Bystanders helped subdue the man, who police say carried a stick.
The owners of the Learjet declined to press charges. Waco police say airport officials are still assessing the damages.
Online jail records do not list bond or an attorney to speak for Morrell.
