As a candidate for State Representative for HD59 I recognize that one of the darkest days of Erath County's history was February 2, 2013 when tragedy struck the Kyle and Littlefield families, our county and our nation.

This tragedy placed the burden of balancing the scales of justice on the shoulders of Erath County taxpayers. Our rural county is thankfully not accustomed to such acts of violence nor is it financially prepared to handle such an exercise of justice with national media attention. I congratulate our entire legal community for the endless hours they put in to make Erath County a shining example of fair and prudent justice.

I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to work with County Judge Tab Thompson and County Commissioner Joe Brown in finding financial resources to help offset the expense of this trial. Every taxpayer in Erath County owes a huge thank you to Senator Craig Estes for placing an amendment in House Bill 2 (HB2) that would reimburse Erath County for this tragic circumstance. Senator Estes and his staff worked tirelessly to get this amendment placed in the supplemental budget bill.

Our citizens need to understand that HB2 left the Appropriations Committee and the House of Representatives with absolutely no representation for Erath County or our taxpayers.

It was not until our State Senator Craig Estes picked up the reins on this issue and filed an amendment to reimburse our strapped county government.

It's issues like this that I desire to go down to Austin to truly represent the people of HD59 alongside good leaders like Senator Craig Estes.
