At the Dublin City Council meeting Monday Lee Leatherwood handed the reins of the city swimming pool off to new manager, Jose Aleman, a Dublin native who graduated from Dublin High in 2010.

Leatherwood was a pivotal force in bringing Dublin’s pool back to life after it was closed for years and in bad repair.

He said he is proud of the work that’s been done by the Pool Association, particularly in drawing people back to the park for more than just swimming.

“They come and get wet, then stick around to play tennis, baseball, things like that so the pool's been good for the people of Dublin, especially the kids,” Leatherwood said. “I have other commitments that need my attention, but I leave the pool in good hands with Jose.”

Aleman, who was a lifeguard at the pool for two years, said the facility will open June 2. Pool hours are 1-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 1-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and closed on Monday. Admission is $1.

They are also open for parties four nights a week from 6-8 p.m.

On the weekends groups can have a two-hour party for $75 or a four-hour party for $150.
