STEPHENVILLE - Services for Timothy Ray Hale, 48, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Stephenville Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Tim passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a brave fight with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).

He was born of Ponca Indian heritage in Oklahoma City. He was adopted at two-days-old by Willie B. and Patricia L. Collins Hale. He was a 1985 graduate of Stephenville High School, an accomplished athlete for the Yellow Jackets, a member of FFA, and played trombone in the band. Tim was a Christian, member of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville, involved in FCA, sang in the church choir, went to church camps, fellowship and mission trips. Tim was highly recruited for his football talents and signed to play for SMU.

After college, Tim worked as a personal trainer and managed several business ventures. His passion followed that of his Dad’s, in training race horses at Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Tim is referred to by many as a “Gentle Giant” or their “Teddy Bear.” His kind, giving, loving heart made those of all ages love him. He was always there for you when you needed someone. He would give total strangers his last penny from his pocket and never expect it back. Tim was also a coach in many different aspects from a cousin’s soccer team, teaching his step-son to play catch, cooking in an iron skillet, or teaching you to drive in “the city.” He would always encourage you with the saying, “Believe in yourself! I DO!” Some of his other favorite sayings were “Pain is weakness leaving the body.” and “Tears clean the windows of the soul.”

Tim is survived by his step-son, Matthew Shafer; mother, Pat Hale and her companion Jim Crittenden; sister, Tina Cason (Mike); aunt, Elizabeth Collins; uncle, J.R. Hale (Pat); nephew, Travis Sturgill; niece, Kyndyll Sturgill; cousins, Chuck Collins (Tamra), Tamara Collins Lewis (Jeff), Amanda Parham Gordan (Elijah), Wesley Parham (Amanda); his lifelong friends, Alfred Taylor, Chad Ratliff, Alan VanderHorst; and extended family and friends.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Hale; maternal grandparents, Earl and Dixie Collins; uncle, Bud Collins; aunt, Dollie Collins Parham; and paternal grandparents, Joe and Janie Hale.

Tim’s family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the fight for a cure for LCH. Please “Make a Gift in Memory” at Histiocytosis Association at or simply do a good deed when remembering Tim.
