Forty years have taken place between 1975 to 2015.

What events have taken place during that time frame? In the last half of the 1970s we saw Arthur Ashe become the first black man to win Wimbledon, the founding of Microsoft, the premier of Saturday Night Live, the first Ebola outbreak, the death of Elvis, the release of Star Wars, the first test-tube baby, and Sony’s introduction of the Walkman.

During the decade of the 80s John Lennon was assassinated, Mt. St Helens erupted, Lady Diana Spencer married Charles, Prince of Wales, a new plague, AIDS, was identified, Thriller was released by Michael Jackson, Sally Ride became the first woman in space, “Back to the Future” opened, the first internet domain name was registered, the space shuttle Challenger exploded, the Berlin Wall fell and the World Wide Web was invented.

During the 90s the Hubble telescope was launched into space, Nelson Mandela was freed, the Soviet Union collapsed, riots occurred in LA after the Rodney King verdict, the cult compound in Waco was raided, Nelson Mandela was elected president of South Africa, O.J. Simpson was found innocent of double murder, the Oklahoma City bombing occurred, the first Harry Potter book was released, Princess Diana died in a car crash, Tiger Woods won the Masters, President Clinton was impeached, Viagra hit the market, the killings at Columbine High School occurred and the Panama Canal was returned to Panama.

During the 2000s, the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists, the rovers landed on Mars, Hurricane Katrina, Barack Obama was elected President, DVD replaced VCR, the movie Avatar was released, Hillary Clinton was elected to the US Senate, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died, Apple introduced the iPhone, the final Harry Potter book was published, Nintendo released the Wii, and European newspapers reprint cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

During this time period movies released included the Jaws series, the Star Wars series, ET the Extra Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Titanic, the Star Trek series, An Officer and a Gentleman, Mad Max, Cocoon, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the Lethal Weapon series, the Ghostbuster movies and The Little Mermaid.

Locally, Tarleton State University grew from an enrollment of 2500 students to over 11,000 and now has satellite campuses in Ft. Worth, Waco and Midlothian. The university has had four presidents - Trogdon, Thompson, McCabe and now Dr. Dottavio.

The campus expanded and now stretches to Harbin Street on the west and Frey on the north. Athletics has moved from non-scholarship competition to DII competition in the Lone Star Conference and is investigating the

possibility of DI membership.

Since 1975 Stephenville has elected 11 mayors from Don Jones and Joe Cummings to Nancy Hunter and Kenny Weldon.

During this time frame my son and younger daughter were born as were my five grandchildren.

I have lost my father, both my wife’s parents and several friends and relatives.

We have had several very cold winters and very hot summers. As you read this we seem to be experiencing rain similar to that experienced by Noah.

But through it all, I have worked for Tarleton State University from 1975 to now.

Bleed Purple and pay it forward.
