Henderson Junior High’s gym was packed Thursday for a special pep rally presenting Mica Rudd and Sabrina Carter with teacher of the years awards.

Rudd, PPCD teacher at Central, won elementary teacher of the year.

"She's very dedicated to her kids and to the progression of teaching," said Kelly Magin, principal of Central Elementary School. "She's attached and invested in these kids and I can't say enough about her."

Carter, life skills teacher at Henderson, won secondary elementary teacher of the year.

“Sabrina Carter is simply an amazing teacher,” said Renee Goodwin, principal of Henderson Junior High.

Teachers are nominated and votes are then cast to decide the winners. During the nominations process, kind words were written anonymously about the teachers.

“She consistently goes above and beyond to teach and love students,” one read. “Sabrina has a constant smile. She meets the challenges of her day with a ‘can do’ attitude and a deterministic outlook.”

The teachers will advance to the next level and will attend a teacher of the year banquet.
