Relay For Life of Erath County will host its opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday. Due to weather conditions, the venue has been changed and will now take place inside the gymnasium at Faith Lutheran Church.

“The thing I look forward to most would be raising cancer awareness and funds,” said committee member Shelley Gilliland. “To one day not having to hear that someone has cancer - or if they do - that there’s a cure for it.”

The survivor lap will follow the opening ceremony and then another special lap will be taken by Central Elementary students, faculty and staff for raising their own funds for the American Cancer Society.

“Central Elementary participated in the Relay Recess,” Gilliland said.

The program is called TOT (Teams of Tomorrow) and the school raised a about $1,200. The lap will honor them and encourage other schools to get involved.

There are many things to enjoy every hour until midnight.

Residents are invited to come out and enjoy an evening raising money for cancer research and support. For any questions please contact Shelley Gilliland at 254-967-0192.
