STEPHENVILLE - Misty Wilson has announced the addition of Catherine Okwilagwe to the Tarleton State TexAnn basketball team Thursday morning.
"I am extremely excited to add Catherine to the Tarleton Women's Basketball program," said Wilson. "She is an outstanding young lady and I am extremely confident that she will represent our program very well on and off the floor.
"Cathy is a tremendous athlete with great size and feel for the game," she continued. "She will give us more size and physicality down low."
Okwilagwe comes to Tarleton after starring for Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, where she was a varsity standout over three of the last four seasons. She missed her junior season with an injury, but bounced back to have a first-team all-district caliber senior campaign.
The 6-2 center averaged 11.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game during her senior campaign, during which she led her squad to a third-place finish in District 11-6A last season and a postseason berth.
"Before the injury kept her out her junior year, Cathy was one of the top recruits in the state of Texas," said Wilson. "She has shown her passion and toughness by battling back from that and we look forward to her reaping the benefits of that dedication."
Okwilagwe becomes the third member of the Tarleton State recruiting class, joining Sunnyvale's Karah Sicurella and Joshua's Shelby Mankins.
