FMC Technologies has been forced to lay off 23 percent of its workforce in Stephenville since the beginning of the year.
The third round of layoffs took place Friday and Monday when 7 percent of FMC's local workforce was laid off, claiming 46 jobs.
"As a result of a continued decline of activity in the oil and gas markets and continued decrease in activity from our customers, FMC Technologies has taken a number of efforts to adjust our business to this lower lever of activity," said Chris Moore, operations manager for FMC Technologies in Stephenville. "Unfortunately as part of our efforts to manage our business as part of this downturn it has become necessary to further reduce our workforce in Stephenville."
The technology and service provider for the gas and oil industry was forced to eliminate 16 percent of its workforce during two rounds of layoffs since January. The second round of layoffs in March claimed 79 jobs.
