Huckabay 62, Gorman 47

Huckabay used a 21-point third quarter explosion and a 19-point effort from Gavin Fuentes to roll past Gorman 62-47 Tuesday in a District 18-1A hoops battle.

Cade Little added 13 points, J.W. Weiss poured in 12 and Ky Bray connected for 10 to lead the Indians’ attack.

The win, coupled with Tuesday’s loss by Lingleville, lifts Huckabay, 17-11 and 7-1, into a first-place tie in the district.

HHS faces Gordon on Friday, then ends the regular season with a showdown against the Cardinals on Feb. 17 at Lingleville.

Strawn 46, Lingleville 44

The Cardinals could not overcome a fast start by Strawn Tuesday night, falling and losing sole possession of first place in the district.

Trailing 21-14 after one quarter, LHS narrowed the gap in the second and third quarters and entered the final eight minutes, just a basket down. However, Strawn battled to a 9-all tie in the fourth and escaped with the 18-1A victory.

Lingleville’s Jared Hagood led all scorers with 16 points Tuesday night, scoring in every quarter. Colbe Stoker, who connected on two 3-point buckets, finished with 11.

The Cardinals slip to 23-5 on the season and 7-1 against district foes. The loss ties them with Huckabay for first place in the loop with a season finale showdown looming Feb. 17.

Before that, however, Lingleville hosts Gorman Friday night.
