After a 3-0 start to the season, Tarleton State has moved up four spots to No. 8 in the latest national rankings released by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Tuesday.

The Texans opened the season, and spent the last two weeks, at No. 12 in the nation. Since the preseason polls were released, Tarleton has won its first three games of the season over New Mexico Highlands, Lubbock Christian and Dallas Christian for its ninth 3-0 start to a season in the last 10 years.

As one of 20 undefeated teams in the top 25, this marks the 87th week in school history in which Tarleton State has been ranked in the national polls and the 53rd week that the Texans have been a top-10 team in the nation.

The top three spots in the nation remain the same with West Liberty, Southern Connecticut and Metro State holding onto their previous positions while Drury, who is scheduled to play Tarleton in Las Vegas at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic next month, moved up three spots to the No. 4 ranking. Bellarmine, Florida Southern and Indiana (Pa.) are holding on to the No. 5, 6 and 7 spots ahead of the Texans.

Tarleton will host the Tarleton Thanksgiving Classic in Stephenville this weekend, beginning Friday against Pittsburg State and wrapping up Saturday against Northwest Nazarene. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. tip off in Wisdom Gym.
