In Texas. 1 of 4 children is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. During the summer, their caretakers struggle to provide those school meals that, for many children, are their primary source of nutrition.

This summer, kids can eat free at neighborhood sites sponsored by Tarrant Area Food Bank, including First United Methodist Church of Stephenville and River Walk Apartments in Stephenville. Together, Tarrant Area Food Bank and First United Methodist Church of Stephenville, 422 W. Washington St., 76401 and River Walk Apartments, 1001 E. Washington St., 76401 are providing free lunch to children at 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, from June 30 through Aug. 22, 2014. Both sites will be closed July 4.

There are no income requirements or registration. Any child under age 18 may come to eat. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Each year, the Texas Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Tarrant Area Food Bank to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer. For more information about the Summer Food Service Program, visit www.summerfood.org.
