Locally owned businesses play a big part in the everyday life in Stephenville. However, all good things must come to an end and for the current owners of the Pizza Place, that day is quickly approaching.

Sherry and Dave Dickerson have owned the local hotspot for 31 years, and will be stepping aside on July 1.

Sherry Dickerson assures customers that nothing will change and that the new owners are Stephenville residents Janet and Jim Tucker and their son Mike Tucker.

"The Tucker family being from Stephenville played a big factor when it came to selling," Sherry said. "We knew they would take care of the business and had the same values we have. They're very family oriented and we think they'll be a great family to take over."

The reason for selling the business is one Sherry said is easy to explain.

"It's time for us to retire, particularly for me," she said. "I'm getting older and when you get a little long in the tooth, it's a good time to step away."

She plans to spend more time with her grandson, do some volunteer work and travel.

"My husband and I have talked about this for a long time," she said. "We've talked about it for several years, and it's finally come to fruition and I'm happy that it is."

Over the 31-year span, Dickerson recalled some of the high and low moments of owning the business.

"Sometimes it's been difficult when you make plans to do something and all of a sudden something breaks or someone gets sick, it alters your plans and you have no control," she said. "But we have had some great times with our customers and we've made some wonderful friends and they've all become like family to us. That's the best part and we'll always remember the loyalty of everyone in the community."
