The Stephenville ISD board of trustees unanimously announced its lone finalist for the superintendent position Tuesday evening.
Matthews Underwood, the soon to be former superintendent of Lago Vista ISD, was named the finalist.
“His personality, vision for the district, ability to see that this is a great place to be are some of the reasons he really stood out to us,” said board president Dr. Ann Calahan. “He’s great at reading and dissecting data and he’s already looked at our district and already knows what parts of our district need improving.”
Underwood has served as the superintendent for Lago Vista ISD for the past four-and-a-half years and also served as superintendent at Mason ISD before that.
“He told us that Stephenville ISD is his dream job,” said Calahan. “He’s the kind of guy who is willing to go and sit down and talk with the community over a cup of coffee.”
Underwood, who did not attend the meeting, cannot officially be voted on by the board to take the position until July 16.
