The Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic will honor Vietnam veterans with a Fourth of July float in this year's parade.

The parade will take place along Washington Street at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 4, starting at Tarleton.

Jo Ann Shipman, director of marketing and business development at SMSC, said the clinic wants to pay special tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

"We thought it would be really neat to honor them in particular this time," Shipman said. "We appreciate all service men and women and the sacrifices they make for us."

The pickup and trailer for the float will be donated by Larry Cathey, a Vietnam veteran himself, and will have a patriotic theme with banners that ask people to remember everyone who has served. Shipman is looking for Vietnam veterans to ride on the float.

"I'm hoping we'll have some people call who want to be a part of it," she said.

To ride on the float or to help decorate, participants can meet at 7 a.m. on July 4 at Tarleton State University.
