With Stephenville ISD finally ending its search for a new superintendent Tuesday evening, the selection leaves many wondering who is Matthews Underwood?
The 43-year-old will be leaving his post as superintendent of Lago Vista ISD, a 1,500-student district, and moving to Stephenville with his wife Fara, and their two children Maci, 10, and Mitchell, 8.
"The thing that drew me to Stephenville ISD is that I've always had a ton of respect for the district," Underwood said. "My dad went to Tarleton for a year and he really enjoyed his time in Stephenville. It's one of the only jobs I would've even considered in this juncture of my career."
In his spare time, Underwood likes to play golf, hunt and fish.
"Golf and hunting are two of my favorite things to do. I like to fish but I don't get to do as much as I'd like," he said.
When he got the call telling him he was chosen as the lone finalist for the superintendent position, Underwood said it was a moment of true joy.
"I was extremely excited," he said. "As a family we were looking for the opportunity to get back to a central down home county and city type of situation. We're extremely excited as a family for this opportunity."
