One man remains hospitalized and in critical condition following a major accident on FM 8 near Lingleville Tuesday afternoon.

Stephenville resident Robert Stroman was driving his Dodge pickup east on FM 8 toward Stephenville when he crossed the road and struck a tractor in the opposite lane that was pulling a hay baler driven by Jason Withers.

According to State Trooper Tyler Williamson, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

"The cause is unknown at this time as to why Mr. Stroman crossed the highway," Williamson said. "A distraction in the vehicle is a possibility at this time, but it doesn't seem texting was the cause."

Withers was taken by ambulance to Texas Health Harris Stephenville where he was treated and released for minor injuries. He was back at work on Wednesday.
