A new program that has been in the making for years is launching this summer in Stephenville. The program is being offered to combat food insecurity among children and youth. This effort is sponsored by the Cross Timbers Backpack Buddies in cooperation with First United Methodist Church and will run 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. starting Monday, June 30, and ending Friday, Aug. 22.

Lunches will be given out at the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church located at 422 West Washington. Children will receive lunches each day and on Fridays. They will also get a backpack of food for the weekend.

Anyone interested in learning more is asked to call the church at 965-5046 or email bpblunch@yahoo.com.

There are no income requirements or registration required. Any child under the age of 18 can come eat. Meals will be provided free of charge through Tarrant Area Food Bank.

There will be no meal on Friday, July 4, and the weekend backpacks will be distributed on Thursday, July 3.
