DALLAS (AP) — Two live elephants, cheerleaders and fireworks have entertained Republican National Committee members visiting Dallas as the city vies to host the 2016 Republican convention.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) on Thursday walked a red carpet into the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas, with about 100 people cheering. He posed at Victory Park between two elephants — the symbol of the Republican Party.
Priebus said he enjoyed the fanfare, but stressed that the committee's final choice would be a "business decision."
Dallas officials are touting the city's experience with major events and its ties to the GOP. They have raised $45 million already in public and private pledges.
Dallas is competing with Denver, Cleveland and Kansas City.
