Henderson Junior High students recently competed in the Texas Junior High Rodeo Association State Finals. The long rodeo was held in Gonzales where the top cowgirls and cowboys from across the state competed for state championship titles and a place on the Texas National Team.
Catherine Clayton was crowned TJHRA Girls Breakaway Roping State Champion and placed 3rd in the state in goat tying.
The top finishes earned her a spot on the Texas National Team in both events. She will now travel to Des Moines, Iowa as a member of the Texas National Team to compete in the National Jr. High Rodeo Association National Finals.
This National Finals Rodeo will consist of the top junior high school competitors from 42 states, Canada and Australia.
Other students from HJH also had a winning week during the State Finals. Neely Halford competed in the breakaway roping. She placed 5th in the 2nd go round and qualified for the short go placing 7th in the state. Presli Bray also roped extremely well placing in the 1st go round and qualifying for the short go. Presli ended up 11th in the state in the breakaway roping. Calli Schmutz and her partner placed 3rd in the first go of ribbon roping.
