South Central Region Tennis Player of the Year Alicia Perez and All-Lone Star Conference baseball standout Alvaro Moreno, both of Tarleton State, have been named LSC Scholar-Athletes.
The LSC presents the honor to one male and one female student-athlete from each of eight of its members, and to a female from Texas Woman's. Perez, from Murcia, Spain, is the only foreign born athlete to earn the honor this year. Eleven of the 17 honorees are from Texas.
Perez, also the LSC Tennis Player of the Year, was 15-3 as Tarleton's No. 1 singles player and 12-8 while bouncing between its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams. In singles, she held a seven-match win streak starting on Feb. 27 and ending on April 8.
Perez majors in kinesiology and fitness management. The College Sports Information Directors of America named her academic all-district, and she was all-academic in the LSC.
Moreno helped Tarleton to its first ever title in the LSC Baseball Championship, batting .355 for the season. He led the Texans in hits with 71 and RBIs with 40. He had 17 extra base hits.
The third baseman from McAllen was also named all-academic by the LSC.
