ABILENE - Graveside services for Mary "Tance" Francis Hook Kasem will be held at a later date at the Smith Springs Cemetery in Stephenville.
Mary was born in Erath County to Monroe and Eva (Riley) Hook. She graduated from Stephenville High School and attended John Tarleton Agricultural College, now Tarleton State University. Most of her working career was spent in the oil and gas industry and later with the Federal Government, namely Fish and Wildlife Service and Federal Prison System. She had lived in Albuquerque, N.M. and El Paso before returning to Stephenville upon her retirement in 1990. In 2001 she moved to Cross Plains.
Mary was a talented Tole painter and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and was an animal rights advocate, donating time and money to various organizations. She was generous to her family, friends and charities. She especially loved cats and always had one or more in her home.
Mary is survived by her sisters Martha Hook Ramsay Waggener and husband Grady of Austin, Norma Jean Hook Moore and husband J.D. of Cross Plains, nieces and nephews, Ted Ramsay, Becky Ramsay Brawner, Johnny Moore, Vicky Moore Worley and Malinda Moore Calcote, 11 great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews and many dear cousins and friends.
