She was born in Odell, Texas on August 3rd, 1927 to Lela Ethel and Charles Richard Daniel and was raised in Texas and Arizona. In San Antonio she met and, on October 13, 1945, married the love of her life, John (Jack) Nelson Evans, Jr. Together they enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage. Josephine raised five children while moving around the United States and the world during Jack’s Air Force career. She once estimated that she had relocated her family at least twenty times. Upon retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Craigville, New York where they built a home in the woods and lived for over thirty years. Josephine and Jack returned to Texas and resided in Stephenville where they enjoyed the companionship of Josephine’s family. In 2009, they moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to their children.

Josephine was a beautiful, smart, sweet and shy woman with a lovely smile. She had a wry sense of humor. Even after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, she could still make you laugh with a remark. She was a dedicated wife and mother, a wonderful cook, an excellent quilter, a talented painter, and a passionate reader of history.

Josephine is survived by her husband Jack; her daughter Laura Evans and her partner Margot Marshall; her son John and his wife Connie and their children Jason, and Michelle and their grandchildren Jamie Lee and Lauren; her son Mark Evans and his partner David Vleck; her son David Evans and his wife Debbie and their children Kristen, Allison, Daniel and Brooke, and their grandchildren Kamryn and Ryleigh; and her daughter Amy Niemetz and her husband Michael and their children Lowell and Lela and their grandson Caleb ; her brother-in-law A.C. Martin and his wife Oma; her sister-in-law Marilyn Howells; and her much loved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; her brothers Henry, Nix and Tom; and her sister and best friend Billie Martin. As her niece Linda Turner said, imagine the Daniel family reunion that is going on right now. They are all together for the first time in a long time.

Josephine’s family wishes to give our special thanks to A.C. and Oma Martin of Dublin, Texas; Donita and Tom Jones of Stephenville, Texas; and Linda and Vernon Turner of Hutto, Texas for the love and friendship they offered her. We also extend our thanks to the many other family and friends in the Stephenville area who were so kind to her.

We also wish to give our thanks and love to all the caregivers who so graciously and kindly cared for Josephine during her last years. In particular we are grateful to Esther Saldana, Florence Nyoike, Mary Martinez, Meaza Demissie, Virginia Goodman, Margaret Osoro and Barbarita Lugo. We will always remember them.
