Two big first-half runs gave Tarleton State control and the TexAnns never relinquished it in a 89-64 Lone Star Conference win over Eastern New Mexico at Greyhound Arena in Portales Saturday evening.
Tarleton (19-6, 10-5) secured a top-three seed in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Championship. They conclude their regular season next Saturday at LSC rival Texas A&M-Commerce. ENMU (6-17, 4-11) is entered the game tied for eighth in the LSC, and is in danger of being the only team in the league to miss the conference tournament.
Six scorers reached double figures for Tarleton, led by Shanae Lowrance with 16. Kiara Wright doubled up for the 55th time in her All-American career, scoring 14 to go with 12 rebounds and four steals. Brianna Bledsoe had 11 points, eight boards and five assists. Raven McGrath scored 12, Kathy Thomas had 10 points and distributed the ball well with nine assists, and Meagan O'Dell also scored 10.
A 10-0 ended the half with the TexAnns ahead 49-28. O'Dell scored seven of them. That came after Eastern New Mexico had a 10-2 push to pull within five after Tarleton's 13-0 run that made it 22-9. Three-pointers by Raven McGrath, Kathy Thomas and McGrath again fueled the first big run.
Tarleton had no letdown after Wednesday's emotional 71-69 upset of No. 5 West Texas A&M on senior night at Wisdom Gym. The TexAnns shot 58.9 percent from the floor including 55 percent from the arc.
