It's time to use those pennies you've been collecting all year.

The ladies of the Zonta Club are - for the 17th time - preparing to host its biggest fundraiser of the year, the annual Penny Auction.

The fun will get rolling at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Stephenville Recreation Hall, located at 378 W. Long Street.

This year's auctioneers are Rusty Jergins and Darrell Brown.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," said Betty Chew. "This is an enjoyable game for the whole family."

Chew and Tammy Hudson are serving as co-chairs for the event.

Over the past 16 years the penny auction has raised $93,000 benefiting local scholarships, Erath County United Way, Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity and other local, charitable organizations.

For mere pennies, attendees can bid on chances to win a slew of unique items including a dining table and four chairs, a signed football and basketball from the Stephenville High School Yellow Jackets and Honeybees, fly spray and much more.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event begins with a silent auction.

Concessions including sandwiches, hotdogs, chips, candy, drinks and other snacks will be available to hungry participants.
