Hurrah for Morgan Mill!
Merry Christmas to one and all. This has been a busy month so maybe now we can relax. The Morgan Mill Baptist Church will have their Christmas Concert and Dinner tonight at 6 pm. Everyone is invited. The food pantry at the BCS at Morgan Mill Methodist Church will be closed for 2 weeks. Please keep an eye on your neighbors if they need anything, let someone know. The fire ban has been lifted, but it is important that you call first before burning. If someone sees smoke and calls 911, the dispatcher will call both the Erath Fire Department and Morgan Mill. Even if you are control burning, the trucks still roll unless you have called first. The number is 965-3318. Thanks for your patience during this dry season. The ice really did not fix the dry grass.
This year the PTF tried something new to benefit the scholarship fund. The kids were able to attend “The Christmas Shoppe” to shop for items ranging from $1 to $5. These gifts were then wrapped for them to take home and put under their trees for their mom, dad, or friends and relatives. A new tradition was born and the PTF Scholarship fund was increased! Thanks, PTFers.
Make plans to attend the MM New Year’s Party at the Community Center. We did not put many Christmas decorations up so we do not have to take many down! Bring your favorite snack and your favorite game to play. Train and the game of 42 seem to be the favorites. Morgan Mill is a safe place to spend the evening and greet the New Year with your friends.
Fallon Peterson and Preslea Elston, kindergartners, express their thoughts at Christmas. Fallon wants four things; a Barbie with the Barbie house, Docket Stuffing set and a bike. Preslea wants a Barbie and her Dream House, skates, and make up. Preslea is expecting to visit Grandma Mimi in Edgewood during the holidays. Both girls performed in the Christmas program and sang “Up on the Housetop” and “Jolly Old St. Nicholas.” Preslea did not think that the Santa for the program was real because she could see the man’s mustache under his beard. She did say that it was one of Santa’s helpers though. They had drawn poinsettias and knew the story of the Christmas plant. The girls did not know when Christmas holidays were. Christmas gets down to the basics through a five year old’s eyes.
Jan. 8-11 is the 4 H Youth Fair and Show. The kids will be preparing food, creating arts and crafts, and showing their photography and shop art. Recently, Hanna Pierce won third place in the 4 H “cutest cooks” contest for the County 4 H Food Challenge. We have an active 4 H program in Morgan Mill. Elizabeth Starnes is their contact person. Showing animals is only a small part of the 4 H program. Jack Stepp is collecting for the MM Buyers Pool at the Community Center every morning from 7 until 8. Bring money.
The new date for the rescheduled UIL contest in Strawn is Tuesday, Jan. 21, for the elementary kids. The junior high kids will be competing on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Gordon.
