Tyson James Nolen, 26, of Weatherford, was sentenced to 54 years in prison after he was found guilty of continuous sexual assault of a child and having sex with underage girls. The case was tried in the Hood County District Court Wednesday.
His attorney, Shay Isham, called the testimony "shocking" and Nolen's conduct "egregious."
"It was unfortunate we had to have a trial and put those kids through it," Isham said Thursday.
Nolen, a former head baseball coach at Lipan ISD, was arrested March 19 following an outcry from a victim. He was charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student (involving one 16-year-old Lipan student) and indecency with a child by sexual contact (which occurred with a second 16-year-old victim).
Nolen was a geography/history teacher in the "L5 Ace Program," which is an after-school program at Lipan ISD. All three victims, including one under the age of 14, testified to incidents occurring in an LISD classroom.
The 54-year sentence for a first degree felony has no early parole, meaning Nolen will be 80 before he is released.
