When veterans in Stephenville learned of the VFW's plans to merge with the Granbury VFW, concerns were raised about the future of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 234 of Stephenville.

According to Commander Harry Woodward, the DAV is still here and going strong. He said even though the VFW will merge with Granbury, the DAV will continue to use the VFW building for their needs.

"The main thing I want people to understand is that we aren't going anywhere," he said. "The DAV will be in Stephenville for as long as I am."

Woodward said the DAV van that takes veterans to Temple and Waco on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and to Brownwood on Tuesday and Thursday will continue to run and take new appointments. The van will still leave from the VFW and the DAV will still hold regular PTSD meetings.

"Just because the VFW isn't going to be meeting there anymore, doesn't mean we won't," he explained. "The DAV still has full permission to continue to meet there and the van will still leave from there every day. We just want everyone to understand that nothing with us will change."

Woodward also noted that to reach the DAV Chapter 234, you can email davstephenville@yahoo.com or drop a note to DAV Chapter 234, P.O. Box 613, Stephenville, Texas 76401. The commander can be reached at (817) 907-9038.

The DAV van is ridden by appointment only. To make appointments, call Robin Ritchie at 965-2689.
