Erath County commissioners unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with Johnson County Monday to house some of its inmates.
Judge Tab Thompson said it was the same interlocal agreement the county has with Hood County, and it has worked well. Sheriff Tommy Bryant said the county will receive $45 per day, per prisoner but did not know how many inmates Johnson County needed housed here.
"It could vary each month, but there's plenty of room," Bryant said. "This addition at the jail has really helped us. Recently we've gone from the mid-60s to the mid-80s in population and many of those are long-term. Without the addition, we would be discussing where we would send our extra inmates."
In other business, the court approved a request from Pct. 3 Commissioner Joe Brown to purchase a pneumatic roller by auction or government vendor and to sell the old pneumatic roller on GovDeals or by auction. Brown and the court declared the old roller surplus and approved both requests.
